One week to the peak of our fundraising effort

We have had a very busy season fundraising and are nearing the end.  Next Saturday we will be up early in the morning (not 4am, like some people) to do our Yorkshire 3-peaks walk. If you know of someone who has not donated, and always meant to, then now is the time to suggest they make good on that donation.  Otherwise at least let us home we have less of the rainy downpours and a bit of a sunny day.

Celtman 2012, In David Burrows own words

"Eighteen and a half hours. That’s a couple of days’ work for most (probably a little more for cafĂ©-dwelling freelance journalists). That’s a little over 12 football games. That’s a flight to Australia. And that’s how long it took me to complete the Scottish extreme triathlon, aka The Celtman.
Admittedly, it wasn’t as painful as watching 12 England games, and I didn’t end up halfway around the world. It also wasn’t quite like being at work, though I did manage the odd cake-stop.

18 hours of pumping iron

I am extremely proud to report David completed his Celtman "ironman" triathlon in 18 hours and 36 minutes.  That is a lot of hard work from the 4am start and not sure many of us could stand that pressure.  The swim took just shy of 55 minutes, with the cycle ride 7 hours 47minutes and the run 9 hours 27 minutes.

I still can't get over it - 18 hours of very hard exercise over very touch terrain.

Last night, by comparison I was pleased to spend just 20 minutes on the treadmill!  I rewarded myself by sharing a box of chocolates.

I wonder how many boxes David would have consumed to recompense his calorie use after the event AND how many bowls of pasta consumed in the build up.

What were you doing at 4am this morning?

Celtman Bike Elevation Plan (m)
I have just been reading the detail of the Celtman which David Burrows started this morning at 4am and which he will be doing for possibly 16 hours today.

The race states "Not for Softies" in several places, and that is an understatement. The picture shows the climbs incurred in the cycling section, which as I write is the section he should be doing.  The total climb is well over 2000 metres.

The event is being filmed by BBC Scotland and should appear later in the year and hopefully we can catch it on BBC iPlayer.

If you want to sponsor David you can do so at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/ForJane.
